Most caring and loving friend

Who could it be?  It is the girl who pushes me every know and then,  who pretends to kick me when I say may be or no to anything, who says “I am not your friend” at the drop of a hat, who can not call it a day without getting on to my nerves, who makes a mountain out of a mole hill, who gets mad if I win a game with her. No I am not overstating anything. Okay at least most of the days.

Adi came home with this award on Friday

I had no clue about this award and mailed her class teacher to gather more details. Here is her reply

Student of the month is awarded at the monthly school assembly for one student in each class. It is chosen by the teacher to award a student in a particular area. This month it was for the most caring friend. I think that Adi fits this category very well! She is consistently getting along with all of her classmates and congratulating them when they get an answer right or accomplish a task. She is always using nice words with her friends and always saying please and thank you to me as well.

I am confused. Is she pretending too much at school? Is it normal for kids to be like this? Have you experienced this? Your two cents please…

who is visiting us tonight

Adi had her maxillary central incisors extracted today. Now you know who is visiting us tonight… The way she co-operated was astounding.  She had cavities and dentist advised to extract them though they are due to fall off soon naturally. If you ask about one thing that bothers me about Adi it will always be her teeth. She has quite a few cavities and this always finds a top place at my worry list. I am still not sure about the reason behind these cavities but badly want to correct them all like they say “kan ketta piragu surya namaskkaram” (worshiping sun after the loss of eyesight)…

We chose today as her school is closed today and Monday. The oral surgeon was great. We consulted her couple of days back and she was very friendly with Adi. She asked Adi to bring her magic wand so she can take off the tooth with the wand while Adi is asleep. She called Adi as dora. Kids love when someone treats them special ain’t it? After the consultation Adi was excited about the extraction. She told me yesterday “mommy don’t forget tomorrow we have to go to dental office with my wand.. The doctor wanted to see my wand”.

With the wand on one hand the general anesthesia was given on other hand through intravenous injection. Then I moved to the waiting room and extraction was done in less than ten minutes. I was much scared than her. She recovered pretty quick and we were back home within next one hour.  The dentist gave me the tooth so we can save it for the tooth fairy visiting us tonight. Hope it doesn’t pain too much as it is just baby tooth. Anyways we decided to keep her on pain suppressant for today. She is busy catching up with all the missed shows in television. Her latest addiction is the dinosaur train theme song. She is practicing hard to sing this in one breath.

Double dhamaka and 100th day

The little girl is on a roll. She won two raffles in less than a week. First one a free hair cut at kid’s club and the next an Invicta watch for her dad from dance class.  This is the first time the family is winning any raffle 🙂

Today is the 100th day of her school. The girl is super excited as always. To celebrate this the kids were asked to make a craft with 100 items of same object. We made a poster with 100 swirl pasta. The specialty of this craft is the pasta’s were glued by daddy-daughter duo following mommy’s instruction.  Both were trying hard to fit all 100 pasta’s in this sheet. No doubt this deserves to be called as a family craft…

Kindergarten Book Report

On a different note apologies to guys who have subscribed to this blog in reader… You would have seen a big count today. I started blogging with rediff blogs and later moved to WP in two months. Just noticed that I am going to soon loose the content in rediff blogs so migrated all the posts to WP.  I have published them as of the original post date (July to September 2009).  It took  quite some time but feels good at the end of it 🙂

Just for smile – 14

Scene 1

Adi: Amma do you know what naked means?
Me: (collecting self as one single peace at the same time thinking swiftly on how to respond before the little girl realizes from my look that I am paranoid !@#$%^&*)  Can you come again honey? what word was that?
Adi: Naked amma
Me: do you know what that means? where did you hear this?
Adi: (very coolly) yeah I think I know… do you want me to tell you?
Me: No words can do justice to my my mental state then.. palpitation was manifolding every second inside me…
Regaining all strength I asked her “yes please can you tell me?” **fingers crossed**
Adi:  You know “Crayon” amma. If the paper rolled around it is taken off then the crayon is naked.. you want to know more?
Me: (hurriedly) that’s okay honey.. I got it…

Phewww it took a while to pull my thoughts out of this…

Scene 2

(On the same day) 😦
Adi: Amma are you older than me?
Me: thinks – God don’t you have mercy on me?  how much can I bear on the same day? (Kadavulae unakku karunaiyae kidayadha? orae nall-lae evlo dhaan thanga midiyum)
Adi: Come on answer me amma are you older than me?
Me: Yes, I am da… what is with that now?
Adi: That means you will die before me.. ha ha ha haaaa
Me: You think I have laughed along? Not at all I was about to pass out and God was kind enough(!!!)  to distract me quickly onto something else…

Star Student

yes she was selected as the star student of the class last week.  She is the second to get this title in a class of 12.

This is the bulletin board at her class that features the favorites of the start student. (appa – please note her favorite color)

What does the star student do on this week. They will share their

Monday – photos of friends, family and pets (Adi took around 8 to 10 photographs of us, grand parents, cousins and our sweet neighbors)

Tuesday – favorite book (She took two of her books – Busy bus and Very hungry catterpillar)

Wednesday – favorite toy (Snowman and Barbie dolls)

Thursday – most prized possession (Missed this as the school was closed due to inclement weather – heavy snow 😦 )

and Friday – a special guest to either read a book or make a craft.  Can you believe she was threatening me all week that she will take her dad as guest every time I disciplined her.  It ended up like I am begging her to be the guest. I have become a easy peasy for her available even before she need me anytime :(…  Anyways we then discussed and decided to make a craft matching the season.

I bought the materials needed on Tuesday night. Cut out the hearts around 75+ small ones and 15+ big ones on Wednesday night. Cutting was started around 10pm and it took almost two hours  to complete it. One minute Adi will be like “Oh my mommy you are the best cutter in this whole world”  and the next minute “I don’t want you to be my guest. I will take appa with me”…

This was Adi’s idea to arrange the hearts like a flower while taking pictures 🙂

Packed all stuff on Thursday evening and was excitingly looking forward for the craft session on Friday… I also took some snacks for the kids to enjoy after craft time.  Myself and her teacher mailed back and forth and fixed the session to be at 12:30 pm.  It was a one hour session and I took two hours permission from office.  The kids were awesome.  I first explained to them the step by step procedure to make the craft and then distributed the materials as they needed. Adi was my helper to check each table if they have sufficient materials. All kids followed the instructions very carefully and  made the craft in a perfect way. The pride on Adi’s face was priceless and her happiness was boundless.

the crafts made by all kids for your glance

Guess how she attended phone calls in this week?  Hellooo this is start student Adi speaking who is on the other side? We hated that week to end is the least to say…

Coming up next – post about book reports…
