Happy Vinayakar Chathurthi 2018

Its almost going to strike 12am and I woke up at 4:30am today. Still just couldn’t go to bed without publishing this post.

Please accept my sincere apologies for not replying to all your lovely comments and wishes in earlier post. I will get to them very soon.

Happy Vinayakar Chathurthi to all my readers.

Thanks to Amma for making the Kozhukattai and sundal so I could focus on making of Ganesha. Adi the high schooler is already busy so I made this Ganesha.

Inspired from me, LHB made this Ganesha and decorated almost same as mine ๐Ÿ™‚ To me it looked like a pillayar resting with his hand as support to his head on the right and stretching his legs to the left ๐Ÿ™‚ And I have no idea what he drew on that paper. Will ask him tomorrow morning. The kids were off to sleep before I returned from Adi’s back to school night. Oh that deserves a separate post ๐Ÿ™‚

The little boy’s tantrums has definitely come to a control with parent’s presence. Big thanks to them.

It’s official

I am a high school mom now ๐Ÿ™‚ The girl has started her high school journey today. I hope she enjoys this high school tenure, has loads of fun and stays responsible. She has a bus to catch at 6:45am in the morning for next 4 years. That means the poor Amma has to make her lunch dabba and breakfast ready by 6:30am!!!

We prayed and did our family ritual of jingu chikka dance before heading to the bus stop. Appa, LHB, M and myself were hiding in the bushes closer to the bus stop as the girl strictly denied our appearance in the bus stop. How can I let her go so easily without seeing her blushing?

So, when she was about to board the bus she was telling her friend that “My mom will be here somewhere taking pics” and was searching for me while I walked up to her and clicked this pic. The moment she realized my presence she turned around. A moment that will be etched to my memory for a very long time!

And its my birthday today! Out of all the days, today is the day I noticed a grey hair in my head! Seriously!!! Signs of growing old I guess ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

And parents are here for a month. Amma made paruppu urundai kuzhambu, beans usili and vada curry today. What more can I ask for?

Trying to live every moment with them as their stay is short.

LHB deserves a separate post. All his terrible two tantrums that were saved for years are thrown at us as if there is no tomorrow. I am just hanging at the edge waiting for his school to reopen in 2 days. Phewwww!!!!

Howdy all?

Graduation 2018

Big day was 19th June. The girl graduated 8th grade. The school arranged for a promotion ceremony and it was a sight to watch all the young ladies and gentlemen dressed up for the occasion. I took day off and played chaperone for the outing planned by Adi and two of her besties after the ceremony.ย  I took special permission from the school principal to take LHB to the ceremony and he tagged along for rest of the day.

We all had lunch at Panera bread and then watched Incredibles 2 in big screen. We were a good 15 minutes early for the movies on a weekday matinee show but still couldnโ€™t get a better seat. Almost half of the 8th graders from Adiโ€™s school were in for the same movie!!

I suggested the girls to do one thing crazy to remember this day and the outing. They discussed about doing a Russian dance in the parking lot but decided otherwise later. Kids these days are too conscious!!

In the evening, we visited Adiโ€™s piano teacher who is in rehab. He broke both his legs and is recovering slowly. What stood out for me from this visit is the post his son wrote about him in FB wall. He had written that his father had made life so simple for him that whenever a situation comes he would just think โ€œwhat would my father do in this situation?โ€ and there comes the clarity! To lead by example. I had goosebumps when I read that post and could see the pride in his eyes. It took him a whole 15 minutes to figure out FB and show that post to us and he didnโ€™t even know about that post until a friend of him called and checked about it! Social media is still alien to a set of people.

Wrapped up the day with dinner at A2B. Melt in your mouth awesome food but service was too slow that we had to cancel the order of adai aviyal. They serve one of the best authentic masala chai I have tasted so far in this country.

Summer vacation is starting tomorrow and I so badly wanted to at least get this post out of my way before I disappear for 2 months.

Happy Summer!

Student of the month – March 2018

This deserves a separate post for 3 reasons

  1. For the extraordinary effort put in by the girl. She got perfect score in consecutive vocabulary tests that impressed her English teacher to honor her with Student of the month award.
  2. I have not seen her so excited about anything as much as this award. So excited that she was particular about me coming for the breakfast arranged to give the award. This coming from the typical tween girl who ignores the presence of her parents in public.
As luck would have it my official trip conflicted and I was not in town on the day the breakfast was planned for. But, how can a true wish of a little girl not come true? Our town was affected by snow storm while I was away and school declared “delayed opening” on breakfast day. So, breakfast was postponed to a later day. I was joking “what if I have to go on another trip on the new date?”. Adi replied “Simple ma! You have no choice but to say no to that trip” ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
So, we attended the breakfast and I can’t skip that twinkling in my eye when the girl was presented with the certificate. M and I played it cool by not going for the seconds though the bagels and cakes were very inviting. Order from the girl so we obeyed. I must admit it was very tough to play it under especially when I saw her photograph in “wall of fame” board.
  3. She did not talk about this with her friends gang because only one other girl in the group got this award and Adi didn’t want the rest of the gang to feel bad. Basically, she didn’t want to brag. Again, it was very hard for me to not brag about it but this life lesson from this little girl hit me hard that I chose to not brag too!

Proud of you ma! God bless you dear!

Best Friday evening ever – Day 98

I don’t know if I will get a Friday evening like today ever again! What made it so special?

  • Coming back to a clean home (not just living room but Adi’s room, dining table with no papers, floors swept, everything at their designated places). Adi and LHB surprised me with a clean home.
  • Dishing out crispy dosas to the clan while they relished and had an extra one.
  • Cleaning kitchen and empty sink.
  • Watching a family Indian movie (all 4 us in the living room wrapped inside blankies).

That is all I need to call it a best evening ever. Mind is so peaceful and calm!

Thanks to my folks and happy weekend to all of you!

Perfect day – Day 93

Yesterday was a perfect day after a long time..

  • We all woke up late, had late breakfast (crispy dosas with red chutney and molaga podi)
  • Adi and LHB put up tent in living room, arranged it with board games, snacks and I let her dream come true by granting permission to order pizza for lunch.
  • Gorged on pizza topped with pinnapple/jalapeno, chicken/onion combos and hershey’s soft baked cookie cake.
  • Watched a movie in the afternoon without disruption while rest of the clan had a siesta.
  • Nice long hot shower. It is a luxury these days!
  • Visited friend’s home in the evening
  • Had masala chai at their home and then we all headed out to bowling
  • Non stop chit chat with friend while kids had fun at bowling centre.
  • Go to an Indian restaurant for dinner at 10pm and ordering like 10+ dishes just when they were about to close the kitchen.
  • Have sweet pan and kashmiri pink tea on the way back to friend’s home.
  • Continue with chit chat while watching LHB dance to tamil video songs at their home.
  • Arriving home at 1am.

Perfect day ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Crochet ruffle scarf – Day 90

Craft exchange gift from the awesome Sri

I received it last month on an evening and promptly wore it to work the very next day.

It was an all day meet at work and I became quite noticeable in the crowd. Received so many compliments and was proudly saying “my friend hand made this for me”.

Thank you so so much Sri. This is a thoughtful gift to someone living on this side of the world.

Inspirational – Day 87

Today, I attended the company recently appointed CEO’s first town hall. The usual self that buries its head into multi tasking the list in hand, today for a change thought it would be nice to listen to CEO speak in person. What if I was working from a remote location? Why do I always pass the opportunity of meeting senior executives in person when they are only few floors away from my desk?

So, I requested for a change of team meeting that conflicted with town hall time and reached the auditorium 20 minutes ahead to secure one of the last few seats available. It was great to feel the positive vibe in the air. He cracked jokes and kept the audience attention for almost 1.5 hours. What stood out for me from his speech is

“Speak up, don’t just speak up but collect your data and speak up with respect”

“Be diversified and inclusive”

According to me, being inclusive in a diversified environment is a big challenge and those who understand this are the real heart winners!

He also touched upon women empowerment.

It was very inspirational to hear his speech and I am starting to feel proud about my company and its brand!
